Website Accessibility

An accessible website enables as many people as possible to access the content of your site. Websites should be easy to use regardless of which web browser or operating system you’re using, and regardless of any disability you might have.

Clooti goes the extra mile to improve access for disabled users such as the blind or vision impaired some of whom may use assistive technology (eg speech browsers).

The added bonus is that an accessible site also offers better browser and platform compatibility for those with older technology as well as future proofing for the next generation.

It also improves usability for inexperienced web users, your pages will load faster, your website will be easier to maintain and let's not forget how much it aids search engine indexing!

Why should you care?

  • It is law in the UK to make 'reasonable steps' to make a website more accessible to the disabled.
"It is unlawful for a service provider to discriminate against a disabled person by refusing to provide any service which it provides to members of the public"
The UK Disability Discrimination Act of 1995
  • It makes good business sense.
The annual spending of the 10 million disabled adults in the UK is around £80 billion.
    (Family Resources Survey 2003-2004)
Fact: Visitors will leave a website that does not work.
And, web users prefer to do business with an organisation that shows an ethical commitment to providing an accessible website.
  • It's the right thing to do.
A website which cannot be used by people with visual or motor impairments is a form of discrimination.

Hey good lookin'....

An accessible website doesn't have to be attractive but we believe it should be.

How do we make it accessible?

  • We impliment clear, easy to use navigation
  • We write clean, standards compliant code (we adhere to the latest WAI WCAG guidelines)
  • We structure our web pages, so they can be easily read by a variety of technologies
  • We validate our CSS
  • We validate our XHTML

Oops! jargon. What we really mean is:

  • We know our stuff

However we don't just tick the boxes in the guidelines.

  • We stick to our strict principles even if it costs us time and money
  • We go the extra mile because we actually do care
